Many people like to give and receive unusual gifts from around the world, and they take the time and effort to source things which the recipient of the gift would not be able to find at home.
Examples of this could include French accessoires or home decor items, authentic Russian vodka or matryoshka dolls, African carvings or ornaments, or Middle Eastern spices or fine embroidery work. If you are organised, this type of approach to giving gifts can actually cost you less, as you can often find very unusual and inexpensive gifts while in other countries on holiday.
Food from other countries can also be a great idea, as long as they are items which can be brought back legally into the country. Consider taking the car over to France for a day or two for Christmas shopping and pick up some great Christmas presents from the hypermarches over there.
French beer and wine usually make good welcome gifts, as do some of the things that we might not be able to buy at home such as regional biscuits and delicacies.
Another way of sourcing gifts is to shop from one of the increasing number of ethnic internet stores, where you are able to buy Moroccan, Indian or Lebanese food and gift items from the comfort of your own home.
